Pay for parking tickets with toys on Dec. 5 and 6

November 25, 2013 -

Great news.

The Toys for Tickets program is extended until Monday.

Pay for your parking ticket with a toy until Monday, Dec. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 216 Ontario St. or at 1211 John Counter Blvd.  (only toy payments can be made at the John Counter location as no cash, debit or credit card can be accepted).

Parking tickets received between November 1 and December 9 – excluding tickets for unauthorized parking in an accessible parking space – can be paid for with a new unwrapped toy of a value equal to or greater than the amount of the ticket (include a receipt with the toy). Recommended gifts include: knapsacks, games, cars, trucks, dolls and plush toys (no toys using glue or batteries, and no war toys can be accepted).

Got a parking ticket? Pay for it with a toy on December 5 and 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 216 Ontario St. or at 1211 John Counter Blvd.  (only toy payments can be made at the John Counter location as no cash, debit or credit card can be accepted).

Last year the Toys for Tickets program collected 308 toys for the local toy drive – that's $3,010 in parking fines. That means more than 2000 toys have been collected by the program since it began in 2005.

"It's a happier way to pay for a ticket. Knowing a child is going to have a nicer holiday because you paid with a toy takes some of the sting out of the parking ticket," says Brandi Timpson, Supervisor, By-Law Enforcement, who hopes even more people will choose to pay with toys this year.

The toys are delivered to the local toy drive in time to be distributed to children over the holidays.
