Pay for parking tickets with toys on Dec 7 and 8
November 28, 2017 -
Got a parking ticket? Pay for it with a toy on Dec. 7 and 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 216 Ontario St. or at 1211 John Counter Blvd. (only toy payments can be made at this location as no cash or credit can be accepted).
"The annual Toys for Tickets program turns parking tickets into toys for children in need. It's a lovely way to take some of the sting out of a ticket," says Melissa Murphy, supervisor parking services. Brochures on the program have been handed out with tickets since early November, so she hopes even more people will choose to pay with toys this year.
Parking tickets received between Nov. 1 and Dec. 8 – excluding tickets for unauthorized parking in an accessible parking space – can be paid for with a new, unwrapped toy of a value equal to or greater than the amount of the ticket at the time of payment (include a receipt with the toy). Recommended gifts include: games, cars, trucks, dolls and stuffed toys. Avoid donating toys needing batteries and toys which promote violence.
Participating in Toys for Tickets is optional, and drivers can choose to pay their parking fines using the options offered on the City's web site at www.CityofKingston.ca/residents/parking/pay-parking-ticket
Since 2005, Toys for Tickets has collected more than 2,800 toys for Kingston children. The toys are delivered to a local toy drive in time to be distributed to children in need over the holidays.
