Pride Flag to be flown during the Winter Olympics
February 10, 2014 -
Kingston will fly the rainbow pride flag during the 2014 Winter Olympics in solidarity with many other Canadian communities showing support for LGBT communities locally, nationally, and internationally.
The pride flag will be flown in Confederation Basin, alongside the Canadian and Ontario flags beginning Monday, February 10 and until Monday, February 24. The decision to fly the flag was passed by Kingston City Council through a poll conducted by the Clerk's Department.
Flying of the pride flag comes in response to the discrimination of LGBT communities in Russia, publicized leading up the Olympic Games. Other major cities flying the pride flag during the Winter Olympic Games include Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and St. John's.
