Last night council approved the City's Public Engagement Framework and Public Engagement Charter which outlines when and how the City engages residents. Benefitting from two years of public input, the framework offers clear, fair and collaborative guidelines for conducting engagement.

"Public engagement is a priority for the City, and the public engagement framework and charter represent the commitment to that priority. The involvement of residents in City decision-making processes is vital to democracy and the framework, charter and new online engagement platform will assist in a more consistent approach. The online platform is being piloted over the next 18 months, and will provide an online option for residents to provide input," says Debbi Miller, manager, communications and public engagement.

Sign Up To Participate

The online platform at gives residents a way to follow and participate in City efforts that affect their quality-of-life.  Kingstonians are encouraged to sign-up at to follow the City's online and in-person engagement opportunities, receive updates – and add their voices to them when, where and how they would like. The platform also provides residents an opportunity to share their ideas. Everyone can view the projects and comments on the platform, but participants need to register to provide input.

"Public engagement encourages participation, action, personal responsibility and democracy. Show Kingston you love it by adding your voice to public conversations.  By signing up at, you can learn more about the project and provide your input," says Miller.

Sign-up at by Monday, Nov. 6 and you will be entered in a draw.

Developing the City's public engagement processes and tools helps deliver on the City's Open Government strategic priority outlined in the 2015-2018 Kingston Strategic Plan.
