Public invited to discuss location for Kingston East Community Centre

September 8, 2014 -

Residents in Kingston's east-end are invited to offer input on where a new Community Centre in the Greenwood Park area should be located and what amenities it should include.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 at the Gore Road Fire Hall, 211 Gore Rd.

"We want to hear from residents as we explore options for a proposed Community Centre," says Luke Follwell, Director of Recreation & Leisure Services.

Follwell points out that, while efforts to shape a proposed Kingston East Community Centre are moving forward, the project itself is not part of the City's current capital plan.

Staff is including a potential Kingston East Community Centre in the comprehensive financial capital plan which will considered by the incoming Council after the October 27 municipal election.  Feedback from the meeting will be included in a Report to Council before the end of the year.

The Parks and Recreation Master Plan recommends that the City provide for the recreational opportunities within walking distance of highly populated areas like Greenwood Park.
