Public invited to update for businesses on John Counter Boulevard overpass project

July 18, 2019 -

Work is set to begin on the John Counter Boulevard (JCB) bridge over the CN rail lines and the contractor that has been awarded the project is holding an update open house for neighbourhood businesses.

Interested members of the public are welcome to attend the open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25 at the Ambassador Hotel, 1550 Princess St.

The JCB project team from R.W. Tomlinson Ltd. and City staff will outline what local businesses can expect to see in the coming weeks and months and will answer questions.

The embankment for the bridge is now complete and has settled, so now it is time to begin Phase 5b of the JCB project: building the bridge.

The bridge and new roadway will include new pedestrian and cycling facilities, a new entrance to the VIA Rail station, and intersection improvements along John Counter Boulevard, including two new sets of traffic signals: one at Old Mill Road and another at the new Portsmouth Avenue intersection.

The work on Phase 5b is expected to be completed in 2021.
