Public open house for planned gas work on June 28
June 26, 2017 -
If you live, work or commute in the area of Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard (Bath to Princess, and Elmwood), join Utilities Kingston for an open house about its annual gas main replacement program. The session will be held at 85 Lappan's Lane from 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28.
You should attend this public open house to learn more about:
- planned traffic disruptions
- the work to replace steel gas mains in the city
- how excavations may impact you
- whether your home or business will benefit from a new gas service pipe
This work helps to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the municipal gas distribution system.
As part of an annual program, in 2017 Utilities Kingston will replace approximately 1,000 metres of steel gas main with new 4" and 2"polyethylene gas main. The project area includes Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard, from Bath Road to Princess Street, including Elmwood Street.
Steel is corrosion-prone, while polyethylene is easier to maintain and repair.
To minimize traffic impacts, trenchless (no-dig) technologies will be used to the greatest extent possible. Traffic updates will be communicated through Twitter @utilitieskngstn.
If you live or work in the affected area, look for a hand-delivered notice that explains what to expect. The utility will contact customers directly if a service interruption is required. All interruptions will be brief, typically less than 30 minutes, and will be coordinated and communicated by Utilities Kingston staff.
