null Put batteries out for collection Nov 6 to 10

October 30, 2017 -

Put your used batteries out for collection in a clear, sealed plastic bag beside your curbside waste the collection week of Nov. 6 to 10.

"Batteries should never go in with your regular garbage. This yearly collection is a convenient way to properly dispose of single-use batteries," says Heather Roberts, the City of Kingston's manager, solid waste operations. Last year, the City's first-ever battery collection properly diverted more than 19 45-gallon drums full of batteries.

The best place for the bag of used batteries is on the ground beside your recycling box or next to another curbside waste container where it can be easily seen by a collector.

Car batteries and other types of large batteries will not be collected.

The battery collection coincides with the end of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, Nov. 5 – a time when Kingston Fire & Rescue urges people to check the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Drop off batteries anytime at one of these locations:

  • City Hall, 216 Ontario St.
  • INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Rd.
  • Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC),  196 Lappan's Lane
  • Find a list of additional drop-off locations at www.rawmaterials.com or www.call2recycle.org.
