Reception Marks Community Response To Fire
January 30, 2014 -
The Mayor is inviting the Kingston Community to a reception in recognition of community efforts during the construction site fire on December 17, 2013.
"Since the fire, we have seen an outpouring of community response and support – everyday Kingstonians helping perfect strangers," said Mayor Mark Gerretsen. "This event gives the public an opportunity to come together to thank and recognize all those who responded to the fire."
As part of the reception on Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Mayor will be making a special presentation at the beginning of the regular Council meeting at 7:30 pm to:
- Matt Henderson, local electrician who used a boom lift to rescue two workers; and
- The crew members of the 8 Wing/CFB Trenton 424 "Tiger" Transport and Rescue Squadron; Captain David Agnew, Captain Jean-Benoit Girard-Beauseigle, Corporal Iain Cleaton, Sergeant Cory Cisyk, and Master Corporal Matthew Davidson, for their rescue efforts of the crane operator during the fire.
"These events have reinforced that we, as a community, can do amazing things," said Gerretsen. "Together we can give so much of ourselves to others, whether we know them or not."
The reception will be from 6 pm to 8 pm in Memorial Hall at Kingston City Hall – 216 Ontario Street. Light refreshments will be served. Residents are also encouraged to sign thank you books that will be available at the event for the responders to the fire. The books will then be given to each group on behalf of the community to share with their teams.
All members of the public are encouraged to come out to show their support to the individuals and teams who supported the community during the fire.
