Reconstruction of downtown Princess Street continues

March 8, 2018 -

As reconstruction work continues up Princess Street, the intersection of Princess and Barrie streets will be closed starting on Monday, March 12. Barrie St. north and south of the intersection will remain open to local traffic including access to the Metro parking lot.

Businesses on Princess Street remain open and will be accessible by two-way traffic from Division to Barrie. Temporary traffic signals and appropriate signage has been installed to help motorists and pedestrians navigate the change. Customers are urged to continue to frequent shops and restaurants in the construction zone.

"This phase of Princess Street reconstruction is on schedule and we are excited for this milestone. We are continuing to work with the contractor to ensure access to businesses remains open including allowing two-way traffic along a section of Princess Street," says Mark Campbell, director of engineering.

This is the final phase of work to Princess Street that has been guided by the City's Downtown Action Plan which covers the 39 blocks of downtown and outlines the materials to be used to beautify our downtown streetscape and complement the city's historic character.

The construction will continue to move up Princess Street from Clergy to Division over the coming months. This section of Princess Street will re-open to traffic on July 1.
