Reminder: Collection day changes start July 8
July 4, 2013 -
On Monday, the City's new regular collection schedule comes into effect. Have your garbage, Green Bin and recycling out to the curb at 6 a.m. on your collection day. Even if your collection day is not changing, your pick-up time might.
Is Your Collection Day Changing?
Is your regular collection day changing? Find out at www.CityofKingston.ca/collection. Go there to sign-up to receive collection day reminders by phone, text message or email. These reminders keep track of Blue and Grey Box weeks for you and reflect holiday changes to collection. Or download the "Kingston Waste" app to your mobile device.
Why The Change?
The changes to the collection schedule allow all residential homes to have their Green Bin, garbage and Blue or Grey Box recycling picked up on the same day every week (Blue and Grey Box weeks continue to alternate).
"Some residents had two days for pick-up – one for garbage and Green Bin and another for recycling. This is really going to make things easier," says John Giles, Manager of Solid Waste, who points out that some residents are not affected by the schedule changes.
Grey, Grey. Blue, Blue.
As the City moves to the new schedule, some areas will have the same colour of recycling box picked up in the first week as was picked up the week of July 1. The Collection Reminder tool at www.CityofKingston.ca/collection and "Kingston Waste" smartphone app will show this.
If you do not have a computer, smartphone or tablet and want to know whether it is a Grey Box or a Blue Box collection week, please call Customer Service 613-546-0000.
Starting the week of July 15, collection will again alternate between Blue and Grey Box weeks.
