Request for Noise Exemptions - Queen's University Orientation Week Events

The Orientation Roundtable of the Alma Mater Society, Queen's University, on behalf of the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society Orientation Week, has applied for exemptions to the City of Kingston's Noise Control Bylaw for the following events:

A ‘Carnival' event, consisting of rotations of carnival activities including food, games, and inflatable structures, on Monday, September 3, 2018, located at Tindall Field, 142 Union St. It is proposed that the event will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

A ‘Frosh Night Out' event, consisting of a series of outdoor challenges, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, located at City Park and the Cricket Field. It is proposed that the event take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A ‘Frosh Night In' event, a movie projected on an outdoor screen, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, located at City Park. It is proposed that the event will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

A Mystery Concert on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, located at the Miller Hall parking lot behind Miller Hall, 36 Union St., and Medical Quadrangle.  It is proposed that sound testing be conducted between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. and that the event will follow from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

A Semi-Formal on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, located at the Bio-Sciences Atrium and Bio-Sciences Courtyard, 166 Barrie St., and at the Medical Quadrangle, 40 Arch St. It is proposed that the event will take place from 8 p.m. to 11p.m.

The amplified noise associated with these events is not permitted at any time in residential areas, according to Section 4.2, under Schedule B of the City of Kingston's Noise Control Bylaw 2004-52.

Anyone wishing to object to these exemptions should deliver their concerns in writing or by e-mail by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 to:

This matter will be considered during the regular Council Meeting that commences at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
