null Security upgrades to City and Utilities Kingston websites may require users to upgrade their browsers
February 27, 2018 -
Needed security upgrades to CityofKingston.ca, UtilitiesKingston.com, KingstonHydro.com and my.UtilitiesKingston.com may require some users to upgrade their browsers to access these sites after March 5.
The security upgrades will not affect the majority of visitors to these sites. Affected users can either upgrade their browsers or use another computing device to access the sites.
"Security is a high priority for the City and Utilities Kingston. As part of our cyber security best practices, all electronic communications between our customers and our websites are to be encrypted using the TLS v1.2 protocol," says Bob Schaefer, manager, technology infrastructure services for the City of Kingston. In the last few years, security and encryption standards have become much more stringent due to the increase and severity of cyber-attacks.
Since August 2017, a notice of this upcoming upgrade has appeared on these sites when they are accessed by those using browsers that are more than three years old.
