Small scrap metal items now accepted at KARC

May 25, 2016 -

You can now drop off small scrap metal items at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC).

"Scrap metal items are recyclable. Scrap metal recycling is well serviced in our community, and in fact many of the locations accepting scrap metal are listed on the City's website.  However, we're trying to increase convenience for our customers by accepting smaller scrap metal items right here at KARC to cut down their trip time to recycle!  Plus it's another step forward to attaining 60 per cent waste diversion.  #WasteNotYGK!," says Heather Roberts, manager solid waste.

KARC, 196 Lappan's Lane, will now accept items like:

  • Pots and pans
  • Metal coat hangers
  • Small appliances like toaster ovens, toasters and microwaves
  • Other small to medium metal items

KARC cannot accept garbage, large appliances, air conditioners or Freon-containing appliances like refrigerators.

KARC is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

See what else you can drop off at KARC – and a list of other locations that accept scrap metal – at www.CityofKingston.ca/Recycling.
