Statutory meeting will review process to update Official Plan

February 9, 2016 -

A special statutory meeting of council will discuss revisions that may be required to the City of Kingston's Official Plan as part of its ongoing five-year update.  It will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at City Hall, 216 Ontario St.

The meeting will offer council an overview of:

  • the process to update the Official Plan completed to date;
  • the various methods of consultation offered throughout the past year;
  • the important issues identified by community stakeholders; and
  • next steps.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for all those wishing to comment to do so.

"This update to the Official Plan has benefitted greatly from the input received from the community during our many public consultations.  We invite further feedback as we continue to refine the Official Plan," says Greg Newman, manager, policy planning.

Details on the Official Plan Update are available at www.CityofKingston.ca/OPupdate.

The Official Plan provides long-range direction for the growth and the development of the City over a period of 20 years, and beyond. The plan sets out how and, generally, where the City will accommodate projected population and employment growth. It also establishes policy objectives tied to the protection of natural environments, local heritage resources, and the many unique communities that define Kingston.

The Official Plan is reviewed every five years as required by the Planning Act.
