Stuff the Bus! Kingston Transit teams with the Salvation Army to generate Food Pantry donations

November 24, 2017 -

Kingston Transit will again support the Salvation Army Community and Family Services' annual Christmas food drive this year with two ‘Stuff the Bus' events. Non-perishable food donations will be accepted at Grant's No Frills on Saturday, Nov. 25 and the Loblaws on Midland Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Kingston Transit staff and members of the Salvation Army will be on-hand in the No Frills (1162 Division St.) and Loblaws (1048 Midland Ave.) parking lots from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. to fill a Kingston Transit bus with non-perishable food and personal hygiene items.

"We have been assisting with the Salvation Army's food drive since 2004," says Jeremy DaCosta, general manager, Kingston Transit. "Last year, with just one bus to stuff, we collected a record 1,874 non-perishable food and personal hygiene items. We are hoping, with two buses, to double that amount this year. As always, our goal is to encourage shoppers to give hope to those in need this holiday season by ‘stuffing our bus' with as many non-perishable food items as they can."

The Salvation Army welcomes the continued support from Kingston Transit and its riders. It is anticipated there will be an even greater need this year and the Salvation Army's goal is to see that no one in the Kingston area goes without adequate food. In 2016, the Salvation Army served over 12,708 individuals and over 6,500 families with food, clothing and practical assistance. Through community meal programs, 17,485 nutritious meals were served to those in need.

Plan your trip and get real-time bus arrival information with Google Maps and other Transit Apps available in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
