Sustainable Kingston presents Mara Shaw and Tom Rand
November 25, 2013 -
Sustainable Kingston continues its free speaker series on Thursday, Nov. 28 with presentations by author Tom Rand, who writes about climate change, and the Loving Spoonful's Mara Shaw.
"Bringing in climate experts like Tom Rand, offers a broader perspective, while local heroes, like Mara, remind us we have the power and capability to meet the challenge of sustainable living well within our grasp," says John Johnson, Sustainable Kingston's Executive Director.
Local Food Champion Shaw kicks-off the evening at 7 p.m., at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St., with a presentation on the Loving Spoonful, a Kingston charity committed enhancing access to fresh, healthy food in an empowering, inclusive and environmentally sustainable manner.
Her talk will be followed by Tom Rand's public conversation about the threat of climate change and the economic opportunities afforded by global transformation to a low-carbon economy, an approach outlined in both Kicking the Fossil Fuel Habit and his soon-to-be published Waking the Frog.
"The City is in the midst of developing a Climate Action Plan and we are pleased to partner with Sustainable Kingston to bring these great voices into that conversation," says Daniel Shipp, Sustainable Initiatives Coordinator for the City.
The event is free, but organizers request participants RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or 613-544-2075, ext. 3.
