Utilities Kingston urges customers to learn about plumbing assistance program ahead of buying services
January 9, 2014 -
Utilities Kingston has been alerted that door-to-door sales people are offering incorrect information about a financial assistance program in order to sell their plumbing devices.
Utilities Kingston does offer financial assistance for eligible plumbing projects through its Preventative Plumbing Program, but customers are urged to confirm the eligibility of a project with Utilities Kingston before buying any plumbing services.
Utilities Kingston's Preventative Plumbing Program – aimed at helping customers prevent basement flooding and sewage backups in their neighbourhood – offers home owners financial assistance with installing preventative plumbing measures in their homes in accordance with the City's Sewer Use Bylaw.
Please note: Utilities Kingston does not go door-to-door to promote this program.
Before you decide to do business with any plumbing or door-to-door sales company, please:
- Read the terms and conditions of the Preventative Plumbing program at www.utilitieskingston.com/Wastewater/basementflooding/preventative.aspx
- Ask to see the salesperson's ID badge and City-issued vendor's permit and request a business card
- Do not share personal information unless you are sure you want to enter into business with the company
- Carefully read any information provided by the salesperson
The popular Preventative Plumbing program is entering its third season of providing public education and assistance to many homeowners.
