Victoria Park receives $500,000 donation from TD to support revitalization efforts

February 21, 2017 -

The City of Kingston has been awarded $500,000 by TD Bank Group to be used for improvements to Victoria Park.

"This generous grant from TD will support needed upgrades and enhancements to our well-used and loved Victoria Park," says Mayor Bryan Paterson. "The planned upgrades, including a new splash pad and water conservation garden, will create a more inviting space to welcome the community while also showcasing responsible environmental practices."

Kingston is one of seven municipalities to benefit from the TD Common Ground Project in celebration of Canada's 150th year of Confederation, which will support a diverse range of projects across Canada to help grown and enhance community green spaces.

The well-loved park will be upgraded to reflect a design by Janet Rosenberg+ Studio. It respects the historic character of the park while offering a distinct separation between the park's passive and active recreational uses linked by a ‘community hub' in the central plaza of the park.

The TD grant will allow additional enhancements to the park, including:

  • the diversification of the existing mature tree canopy in the park,
  • replacing the former wading pool with a splash pad /urban water feature with water conservation, education and low impact development measures.

The park improvements will be celebrated with a reopening event this summer.  TD's contribution toward the park renovations will be recognized at the event and on-site as part of the water conservation garden.
