Vote For Your Favourite "Spirit Of Kingston" Photo

December 14, 2012

Resident-submitted images being featured to celebrate site redesign

Five resident-submitted photographs of "The Spirit of Kingston" have now been posted for public voting on the City's website as part of the This is Your Kingston campaign to celebrate the redesign of the City's site.

During the re-build of the website, the City is posting five resident-submitted photographs www.CityofKingston.ca/newwebsite and asking the public to vote for its favourite. The chosen photograph is then featured as a "This is your Kingston" banner on the front of the site. (The City received more than 300 images during this campaign's submission period this spring.)

The new This is your Kingston banner showcases Maria Offin's photograph, "Chicka-de-de-de." This picture was the favourite in the campaign's "Seasons" category, receiving 85 of a total 272 votes received over the last month.

Below are the five pictures chosen for contention for this month's "Spirit of Kingston" category — the final category in this campaign's series — which received 34 submissions. They are (in alphabetical order):

  • Sailing, Ferry and Windmills by Marg Chase
  • Geraniums and limestone by Sheila Hutchinson
  • Framed fog by Maria Offin
  • Sunset from the Ferry by Dale Page
  • Spirit of Sir John A. Locomotive by Meredith Westcott

Voting for this category closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14.

The City continues to work towards the launch of the new website in 2013. The focus is now on the technical development and preparation of content, new features and capabilities. The City's new website will emphasize easy navigation (on mobile devices, too), quick online access to City services, opportunities for interaction and a fresh look that highlights the vibrancy of Kingston. The design and features of the new site are benefitting from an extensive public and stakeholder consultation process.
