null Want to serve Kingston? Potential candidates for municipal election invited to information session
June 18, 2014 -
Calling all Kingstonians interested in running for election to a municipal office: come to the City's Candidates Information Session 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 23, in the multi-purpose room at the Artillery Park Aquatic Centre, 382 Bagot St.
"Information is key, anyone with questions about the electoral process or the commitment involved in being a member of Council or school board trustee, is invited to attend," says Kevin Arjoon, Deputy City Clerk and Assistant Returning Officer. He notes that the session is to provide the necessary information to those considering running for office on October 27, 2014. This is an information session and not a forum for political debate.
Participants will learn about City and Board governance models, including the specific roles of the Mayor, Councillors and Trustees. They will also hear about time commitments and remuneration, and receive a basic orientation to the municipal election process, including rules and regulations regarding campaign finances.
