Work set to begin on Bath Road multi-use path next week

July 26, 2018 -

The City of Kingston is preparing to begin work next Wednesday on a bikeway and multi-use waterfront path along Bath Road from Coverdale Drive to Collins Bay Road.  This section of Bath Road will be down to one eastbound lane from Aug. 1 through September.

"We want to let everyone know this great active transportation project will soon be underway. You'll notice crews installing signage and moving traffic control equipment starting today, but this project will not impact traffic until next Wednesday," says Anthony Simmons, manager, construction.

However, pipe for a separate Union Gas project in this area is being dropped off late this afternoon (July 26) and may cause traffic delays.

The Bath Road bikeway and multi-use path will connect two existing sections of the Waterfront Trail, making it a more attractive choice for those who want to walk, cycle or use a wheelchair to get to their destination.

Construction of the multi-use path was originally scheduled to take place last year, but was delayed to accommodate repairs needed to address the erosion of the shoreline due to last year's high water levels.

The project is supported by $268,500 in funds from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program.
