We are seeking resident, host and hospitality sector input as we consider measures to manage short-term accommodations in Kingston.
Short-term accommodations are private, residential dwellings (or part of dwellings) that are rented to provide sleeping accommodations to a person or persons on a temporary basis (generally less than 28 days, with daily or weekly rates). We are seeing more short-term accommodations emerging in Kingston through online platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, or roomorama.
Staff is seeking feedback that will inform a future policy review of short-term accommodations. At this stage, we are introducing the topic for discussion to hear from the public and start a dialogue.
Join us on Thursday, March 15 at Memorial Hall, City Hall for an introductory discussion session on this topic from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
I encourage you to complete the online survey at www.GetInvolved.CityofKingston.ca by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26.
Staff has been collecting information to better understand how homesharing is being used in Kingston, as well as learning from the best practices of other cities. This preliminary background information is now available online in two different documents. One is focused on the current status of short-term accommodation in Kingston. The other is a review of lessons we have learned from how other municipalities have approached short-term accommodations.
