Voting Locations
The key to a quick and easy in person voting experience is to be on the Voters' List. If you are on the Voters' List you will receive your Voter Information Notice (VIN) a few weeks before Voting Day. Your VIN provides the location of your voting place and your unique Voter Identification Number that allows you to register and receive a PIN number in order to access internet voting.
For in person voting, simply bring your Voter Information Notice and appropriate ID to your voting place and you will be issued your ballot.

Accessible voting

New: Vote anywhere in your Electoral District
For the 2018 municipal election, you will be able to vote at any of the voting places in your electoral district regardless of your "assigned" voting place as shown on your Voter Information Notice. As long as you are qualified to vote and are in the right electoral district, you will be able to update your information on the Voters' List, if need be, and cast your ballot at any of the voting places in your electoral district.
Free transit on Advance Voting Day and Voting Day
Kingston Transit and Kingston Access Bus will be offering free transit to electors on both Advance Voting Day and Voting Day between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. If you plan on using Kingston Transit, you will need to show your Voter Information Notice when you board the bus. Free transportation on Kingston Access Bus will only be available to you if you are a registered user of that service. When reserving your transportation on Kingston Access Bus, you will have to identify which voting place you are going to.
Voting place line-ups
One of the main frustrations expressed after the 2014 municipal election related to the long line-ups experienced at some voting places, particularly after 5:00 p.m. Perhaps you were in one of those line-ups and had to wait 30 minutes or more to cast your ballot.
As an elector, here are some actions you can take to either avoid waiting in line or to shorten your wait time at the voting place:
- Vote online - it's easy, convenient and safe – See Internet Voting for more information
- Vote on Advance Voting Day when wait times are much shorter
- Make sure you are on the Voters' List and your information is up-to-date – in 2014 one in every three electors had to make revisions to the Voters' List on Voting Day before being able to cast their ballot;
- If possible, avoid peak voting times, i.e. when the voting place first opens and after 4:00 p.m.
- Bring your Voter Information Notice and appropriate identification to the voting place.
City Council has also approved the following enhancements for the 2018 municipal election to assist in shortening the wait times at the voting places:
- The period for internet voting has been extended to include Voting Day;
- Specific communications have been developed to encourage electors to make sure they are on the Voters' List, to use internet voting, and to vote on Advance Voting Day;
- The number of election staff at each voting place has been increased
- The roles of election staff have been redefined to help streamline the process of amending the Voters' List and issuing ballots.
