null City now offers Extended Health Benefits Program to low-income households

June 26, 2018 -

Residents living in low-income households can now apply to receive dental and vision care through the City of Kingston's new Extended Health Benefit Program.

"We know that this kind of extended health support is dearly needed and are happy we can offer it through the easy and familiar Municipal Fee Assistance Program. We look forward to adding support for prescription drugs to the Extended Health Benefits Program  this fall," says Sheldon Laidman, director of housing & social services.

The program offers a maximum of $600 for eligible individuals and $800 for families toward dental or vision care costs starting July 3.

Eligible applicants will be sent an embossed letter they can take to their dentist or optometrist to access the care they need (within three months). Funds will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

To access the funds, you must apply using the My Kingston Municipal Fee Assistance Program (MFAP) application. You must fill out an application – even if you are already receiving MFAP. Applications are available at, City Hall, Artillery Park Aquatic Centre, Housing and Social Services, Rideau Heights Community Centre and the INVISTA Centre.
