City to synchronize waste collection schedule starting July 8
June 17, 2013 -
Starting Monday, July 8, the City is synchronizing its collection schedule so that all residential homes will have all their Green Bin, garbage and recycling picked up on the same day every week.
"It's so much more convenient to have to plan for only one collection day a week. This is really going to make things easier for a number of residents," says John Giles, Manager of Solid Waste, who points out that some residents will not be affected at all. He hopes the obvious advantages of going to single-day pick-up will help offset any initial confusion with new schedules in some areas.
Residents should watch their mail this week for more information on how this change may affect them. Detailed information on the change is also available on the City's website at www.CityofKingston.ca/collection.
As the City moves to the synchronized schedule, some areas of Kingston will have the same colour of recycling box picked up two weeks in a row (the weeks of July 1 and July 8). Starting the week of July 15, collection will again alternate between Blue and Grey Box weeks. The City's handy Collection Reminder tool will show this.
Sign-up to be reminded what to put out when by phone, email or text message at www.CityofKingston.ca/collection. City collection reminders automatically reflect any upcoming changes in collection – and also tell you if it is a Blue Box or Grey Box week, and/or a week when you may put out two untagged bags of garbage.
Residents are reminded to have all their collectibles at the curb by 6 a.m. on their pick-up day.
