null City to take part in Disabilities Mentoring Day
October 24, 2017
To mark Disabilities Mentoring Day, the City of Kingston will welcome seven mentees to City offices on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The job-ready persons with disabilities who enrolled in the program will work alongside staff for the day, gaining experience specific to municipal government operations.
The mentees' skill sets have been matched to the type of work that they will be performing. The matching of mentors and mentees was facilitated by Dolphin Digital Technologies, founder of the annual event.
"I am looking forward to being a part of Disabilities Mentoring Day, it's a great opportunity to share my passion for the work I do and connect with a mentee looking to gain employment," says David Mignault, manager of organizational development.
Mentees will work alongside City staff in the information systems and technology department, transportation services, human resources and organizational development services, facilities management and construction services, engineering and recreation and leisure services.
Municipalities across Canada are participating in Disability Mentoring Day, including; London, Waterloo Region, Niagara Region, Hamilton, Brantford, Toronto, Sudbury, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver. This is the second year the City of Kingston is participating.
