null Field work begins for Kingston East Community Centre
November 28, 2017 -
This week, the City of Kingston is conducting geotechnical field work on the future site of the Kingston East Community Centre. On Wednesday and Thursday, crews will begin drilling on the chosen site at Highway 15 and Grenadier Drive from 9 a.m. through the late afternoon.
"This work is an important step in the process and will help to determine the site conditions for the project and guide next steps. Following this, we look forward to presenting some designs for public input in early 2018," says Adam McCluskey, manager, recreation facilities.
A truck-mounted drilling rig will be used to help the City study the soil and rock around the site ahead of designing the earthworks and foundation for the east end's new community centre.
Once completed, the community centre will be approximately 20,000 sq. ft. and could include a full-sized gymnasium and numerous community meeting and program spaces. The new community centre is scheduled for completion in early 2020.
