null Utilities Kingston line workers depart for Rye Brook, New York to assist with power restoration

March 9, 2018 -

Five Utilities Kingston line workers departed for Rye Brook, New York this morning to assist with power restoration after a Nor'easter storm left several hundred thousand customers in the dark. The utility company is responding to an urgent New York Power Authority request to provide line workers and bucket trucks to the state after another severe storm hit the region.

Journeypersons Allan Hawley, Sheldon Waterman, Kyle Barrett and William Beattie, and subforeperson Chris Mills have responded. They are expected to arrive in Rye Brook Friday evening and may not return to Kingston for two to three weeks.

"This powerful storm has toppled trees and downed powerlines, and we thank our line workers who have stepped up to assist our neighbours. We're proud of our industry, which comes together during times of need to combine resources and provide assistance where it's needed most. Kingston was the recipient of this goodwill during the ice storm of '98, and this is our opportunity to give back," says Jim Keech, president and CEO of Utilities Kingston.
