In June 2016, Council approved the purchase of the former St. Joseph/St. Mary Catholic School from the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic School Board. The property is approximately 6,000 square metres (1.5 acres) in size and has road frontage on both Brock Street and Napier Street. Council intends to pursue the redevelopment of the lands to include public parkland, affordable housing and private market housing to be located toward Brock Street.
On Nov. 17, 2016 a public meeting was hosted for a zoning by-law amendment application for portions of the site. The application proposes to establish zoning provisions to support the development of the parkland block and affordable housing block.

Further opportunities for direct public feedback on this project will be offered during the detailed redevelopment planning and design process for the parkland area in 2017. Any applications submitted to develop housing on the property will include formal public meetings as required by the Planning Act.
