KEYS and the City host the Inclusion Charter Launch: Promoting Inclusion and Diversity in the Workplace

KEYS Job Centre and the City of Kingston will launch the brand new Workplace Inclusion Charter on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Memorial Hall, Kingston City Hall.

A product of Kingston's Workforce Development and In-migration Strategy's Inclusive Workplaces working group, the Workplace Inclusion Charter was created to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in Kingston workplaces. The Charter will also help to address local workforce needs and demonstrates Kingston's leadership in creating prosperous, vibrant, diverse, and inclusive communities.

Mayor Bryan Paterson will open the event at which attendees will learn more about the content of the Charter and how to take the first step towards endorsing and implementing it in their workplaces. KEYS will also highlight the unique Intercultural Intelligence Toolkit which was developed based on best practices and local research, and includes opportunities for customized workshops and one-to-one coaching to support employers in implementing inclusive policies and practices.

Employers who have already expressed an interest in endorsing the charter will be recognised during the launch. The launch will wrap up with a networking activity, after which guests will be invited to sign on to the Charter, and enjoy informal networking and catered local food.

"Inclusive workplaces provide an opportunity for all individuals to realized their full potential and for employers to benefit from the broad skills and attributes of our diverse community." says Michael Harris, Executive Director at KEYS Job Centre. 

"Meaningful diversity and inclusion within Kingston workplaces is essential for our community to take advantage of local labour pools and be competitive in a global market," says Craig Desjardins, Director of Strategy, Innovation & Partnerships, City of Kingston.

The inclusion charter implementation initiative is made possible thanks to a grant from Heritage Canada's Anti-Racism Action program and will focus on empowering Kingston employers to make their workplaces more diverse and inclusive for under-represented groups.
