Route Detours and Holiday Changes

Holiday schedules
Bus service operates on a Sunday schedule on Family Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Monday and Boxing Day. Route 18 will run on a weekday schedule on these days. Kingston Transit does not operate on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.

October 22-26 - Evening road closure - La Salle Causeway

The La Salle Causeway will be closed to traffic after 9:30 p.m. each night from Sunday, October 22 through Thursday, October 26 to allow crews to make repairs to the bascule bridge.  The road will reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning each day.

From the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride, Express Route 601 will travel west on Innovation, north on Highway 15, west on Highway 401, south on Montreal, east on Raglan, south on Bagot, east on Princess, south on Wellington, and west on Brock to access the Downtown Transfer Point.  Express Route 601 will drop passengers off at marked stops only on Montreal upon request, but will make no pickups.  Express Route 601 will then continue on its regular route to Queen's and Kingston General Hospital.  Express Route 601 buses will depart Innovation Dr. Park & Ride via the detour route every 30 minutes from 9:37 p.m. until 11:37 p.m.

The last trip of the night operating direct to the Downtown Transfer Point from Innovation Dr. Park & Ride (11:40 p.m.) will not operate during the Causeway closure; buses will depart Innovation Dr. Park & Ride at 11:37 p.m.

From the Queen's University/Kingston General Hospital Express stop on Stuart, Express Route 602 will continue on its regular route to the Downtown Transfer Point, then will travel north on Bagot, west on Raglan, north on Montreal, east on Highway 401, south on Highway 15, and east on Innovation to resume regular route at the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride.  Express Route 602 will make no stops between the Downtown Transfer Point and Innovation Drive.  Express Route 602 buses will depart the Downtown Transfer Point via the detour route at 9:37 p.m., 10:07 p.m., 10:37 p.m., and 11:19 p.m. (no change to departure times from Queen's/Kingston General Hospital):

After servicing the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride, Express Route 602 buses will make a loop through Greenwood Park, returning to the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride.  Express Route 602 buses will travel west on Innovation, south on Highway 15, east on Gore, north on Rose Abbey, north on Highway 15, east on John Marks, and south on Innovation.  After a brief wait, this bus will then travel to the Downtown Transfer Point as Express Route 601.  Express buses will serve Express stops on Gore, Rose Abbey, John Marks, and Innovation.

The following Express stops will be out of service during the Causeway closure:

  • Ontario at the Wolfe Island ferry dock (east side)
  • Ontario at the Rogers K-Rock Centre (west side)
  • Highway 2 at Navy Way/RMC (north side)
  • Gore at Rideau Town Centre (westbound stop only; Downtown and Queen's/KGH-board passengers may board at the eastbound stop)
  • Rose Abbey at Dalgleish (southbound stop only; Downtown and Queen's/KGH-board passengers may board at the northbound stop)
  • Rose Abbey at McCallum (southbound stop only; Downtown and Queen's/KGH-board passengers may board at the northbound stop)
  • Rose Abbey at St. Martha (southbound stop only; Downtown and Queen's/KGH-board passengers may board at the northbound stop)

The following stops will be serviced by the Route 12 Shuttle (instead of Express buses) during the Causeway closure:

  • Highway 2 at Fort Henry (south side)
  • Highway 15 at Wellington (both sides)
  • Highway 15 at Barrett (both sides)
  • Highway 15 at Medley (west side)
  • Highway 15 at Grenadier (east side)

Express Routes 601 and 602 will operate normally prior to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

October 22-26 - Evening road closure - La Salle Causeway

The La Salle Causeway will be closed to traffic after 9:30 p.m. each night from Sunday, October 22 through Thursday, October 26 to allow crews to make repairs to the bascule bridge.  The road will reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning each day.

After 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Route 12 will be separated into two sections:

  • The Regent/Brock/Johnson section will travel on its regular route in both directions between Kingston Centre and Downtown.  Route 12 buses will not turn right onto Bagot after serving the Downtown Transfer Point; rather, they will continue west on Brock.  Departure times from Kingston Centre and the Downtown Transfer Point will not change.
  • The Route 12 Shuttle will remain east of the Cataraqui River, servicing CFB Kingston, Grenadier Village, Greenwood Park, and the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride.

Route 12 buses will not cross the Cataraqui River during this closure.  The Route 12 Shuttle will service the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride, where riders continuing their trip downtown must transfer to the Queen's/KGH-bound Express Route 601.  Riders originating west of the Cataraqui River wishing to access destinations south of Gore may take Innovation Dr. Park & Ride-bound Express Route 602 buses to the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride, where they must transfer to the Route 12 Shuttle.

Route 12 Shuttle buses will operate in two directions, servicing all regular and Express bus stops:

  • From the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride, RMC-bound Route 12 Shuttle buses will travel west on Innovation, south on Highway 15, east on Gore, south on Rose Abbey, straight on Grenadier, south on Highway 15, east on Highway 2, south on Princess Mary, west on Caen, south on Canal du Nord, west on Lundy's, west on Fort Henry, and east on Highway 2 to service the eastbound Express shelter at Highway 2 and Fort Henry.
  • From the Express shelter on Highway 2 at Fort Henry, Innovation Dr.-bound Route 12 Shuttle buses will travel east on Highway 2, south on Niagara Park, east on Lundy's, north on Canal du Nord, east on Caen, north on Princess Mary, west on Highway 2, north on Highway 15, east on Gore, north on Rose Abbey, north on Highway 15, east on John Marks, and south on Innovation to access the Innovation Dr. Park & Ride.

RMC-bound Route 12 Shuttle buses will depart Innovation Dr. Park & Ride at 9:27 p.m. and 10:27 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Innovation Dr.-bound Route 12 Shuttle buses will depart the Express shelter on Highway 2 at Fort Henry at 9:55 p.m. and 10:55 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The following stops will be out of service during the closure:

  • Ontario St. at the Wolfe Island ferry dock (east side)
  • Ontario St. at the Rogers K-Rock Centre (west side)
  • Highway 2 at the RMC Pedestrian Bridge (both sides)
  • Highway 2 at Navy (north side)

In addition, Route 12 buses will not service the shelter on Brock at City Hall.  Route 3 buses continue to service this bus stop during the closures.

Route 12 will operate normally all day Sunday, and prior to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

October 15 - St. Lawrence College Faculty Strike

As of 12:01 a.m. Monday, October 16, St. Lawrence College faculty are on strike. During the work stoppage, Kingston Transit buses will NOT provide service at the St Lawrence College transfer point.  The following detours will be in place until further notice:

  • Route 1: from the intersection of Portsmouth and Baiden, Route 1 buses will detour right to Baiden, left to Cartwright, left to Churchill, and left to Portsmouth to service the temporary transfer point on Portsmouth at Baiden (west side).  Route 1 buses will not service stops at Portsmouth/Baiden (east side) or Portsmouth/Calderwood (east side).
  • Route 2 Division: from the intersection of Churchill and Portsmouth, Division St.-bound Route 2 buses will detour left on Portsmouth to service the temporary transfer point on Portsmouth at Baiden (west side).  Route 2 buses will not service the stop at Portsmouth/Calderwood (east side).
  • Route 2 Kingston Centre: Kingston Centre-bound Route 2 buses will service a temporary transfer point on Portsmouth at Churchill (east side) during this time.  From here, buses will detour straight on Portsmouth, right on Mary, right on Cartwright, and left on Churchill to resume regular route.  Route 2 buses will not service stops at Portsmouth/Baiden (east side) or Portsmouth/Calderwood (east side).
  • Route 3 Downtown: Downtown-bound Route 3 buses will continue straight on Portsmouth past the SLC entrance, and will hold at the temporary transfer point on Portsmouth at Baiden (west side) until the scheduled departure time from SLC.
  • Route 3 Kingston Centre: Kingston Centre-bound Route 3 buses will continue straight on Portsmouth past the SLC entrance.  The Portsmouth/Baiden (east side) stop will be out of service; a temporary stop will be placed one block north at Portsmouth/Churchill (east side).
  • Route 6: from the intersection of Portsmouth and Baiden, Route 6 buses will detour right to Baiden, left to Cartwright, left to Churchill, and left to Portsmouth to service the temporary transfer point on Portsmouth at Baiden (west side).  Route 6 buses will not service stops at Portsmouth/Baiden (east side) or Portsmouth/Calderwood (east side).
  • Route 18: Route 18 buses will continue straight on Portsmouth past the SLC entrance.  The Portsmouth/Baiden (east side) stop will be out of service; a temporary stop will be placed one block north at Portsmouth/Churchill (east side).

October 11 - Road closure - Johnson Street at Division

Starting Wednesday, October 11, and continuing until further notice, Johnson Street will be closed at Division as part of the Division Street reconstruction project.

  • Express Route 701: from the intersection of Princess and Division, buses will detour right to Princess, right to Bagot, and right to Brock to resume regular route.  Buses will service the Express Route 501 stop on Princess at Barrie.
  • Express Route 702: from the intersection of Johnson and University, buses will detour left to University, right to Princess, right to Bagot, and right to Brock to resume regular route.  Buses will service the Express Route 501 stop on Princess at Barrie.
  • Route 12 Highway 15: from the intersection of Johnson and University, buses will detour left to University, right to Princess, right to Barrie, and left to Johnson to resume regular route.  Buses will service the Express Route 501 stop on Princess at Barrie.  Kingston Centre-bound buses are not affected by this closure.
  • Route 17: from the intersection of University and Union, buses will detour right to Union and left to Barrie, resuming regular route at Barrie.  Buses will not service stops on University (north of Union) or Johnson.

October 10 - Stops out of service - Conacher Drive

Effective at start of service on Tuesday, October 10, several stops on Conacher Drive will be permanently removed from service, in order to improve accessibility and service reliability.

Route 2 Division St.: as of October 10, buses will no longer service the Conacher/Baker (south side) or 44 Conacher (south side) stops.  Please board Route 2 buses at the newly-upgraded accessible stop at Conacher/Abbey Dale (south side).

Route 2 Kingston Centre: as of October 10, buses will no longer service the Conacher/Morenz (east portal, north side) stop, or the Conacher/Abbey Dale (north side) stop located west of Morenz (west portal).  Please board Route 2 buses at the newly-built accessible stop on Conacher (north side), between Morenz (west portal) and Morenz (east portal). 

September 25 - Change in departure time - 7:45 a.m. departure from Train Station

Effective Monday, September 25, the 7:45 a.m. Route 16 Bus Terminal trip from the Train Station will be shifted back by 5 minutes, and will depart at 7:40 a.m. instead.

September 18 - Stop out of service - Taylor-Kidd Boulevard at Bayridge

Effective at start of service on Monday, September 18, and continuing until further notice, the St. Lawrence College-bound Route 6 bus stop on Taylor-Kidd at Bayridge (south side) will be temporarily removed from service due to watermain construction.  Please board Route 6 buses one block north (on the west side of Bayridge, just north of Taylor-Kidd).

September 5 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Starting Tuesday, September 5, and continuing until further notice, the gates to CFB Kingston on Craftsman Boulevard (at Highway 2 and at Highway 15) will close each night at 8 p.m., and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.  Starting Tuesday, Route 12 buses will not service stops on Craftsman in either direction after 8 p.m.; buses will detour in both directions via Highways 2 and 15.

July 10 - Stop out of service - Cataraqui Woods Drive at Midland

Effective Monday, July 10, the bus stop on Cataraqui Woods Drive (south side) east of Midland will be out of service until further notice due to utilities reconstruction.  Please board Route 7 buses at an accessible temporary stop on Midland (east side), just south of Cataraqui Woods.

May 19 - Centennial Drive at Atkinson

The Route 14 detour via Atkinson and Halifax has resumed, and will continue until further notice. From the intersection of Centennial and Atkinson, Route 14 buses will detour east on Atkinson, south on Halifax, and east on Crossfield to return to regular route.  The bus stop on Centennial and Atkinson will be out of service during this time; a non-accessible temporary stop will be provided on Halifax, south of Atkinson.
