First Capital Place will be illuminated on national days and observances in Canada that are listed below. Through public consultation, these dates were deemed the most relevant to the Kingston community, and endorsed by Council.

Illumination applications received for these specific dates will not be approved, and the City will work with the applicant to choose an alternate date. 
  • Sir John A. Macdonald Day (January 11)
  • Black History Month (February 1)
  • International Women's Day (March 8)
  • St. Patrick's Day (March 17)
  • Earth Hour (lights off 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., late March)
  • Vimy Ridge Day (April 9)
  • Asian History Month (May 1)
  • Victoria Day (last Monday of May preceding May 25
  • Kingston Pride (June 15)
  • National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21)
  • Saint-Jean Baptiste Day (June 24)
  • Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27)
  • Canada Day (July 1)
  • International Day of Peace (September 21)
  • Islamic History Month (October 1)
  • Remembrance Day (November 11)
  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3)
  • National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (December 6)
