Poetry Writing Workshop with Jason Heroux

Start Date:
End Date:
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Isabel Turner Branch Kingston Frontenac Public Library 935 Gardiners Rd.

In honour of National Poetry Month, Kingston Frontenac Public Library is delighted to announce a Poetry Writing Workshop.

Poetry allows us to share personal feelings and perspectives, but every poem is also part of an ongoing cultural conversation that carries on beyond us, spanning generations and geographies.  Join the conversation!  Add your voice by responding to one of your favourite poems.

Kingston Poet Laureate Jason Heroux offers a workshop to inspire participants to compose their own “response poem” to a poem they cherish.  Bring a single-page poem you admire (printed or digital, and written by someone other than yourself), and a notepad or laptop to compose your “response poem.”  The group will work together to discuss various techniques and methods, and each participant will write a poem in response to the poem they brought.  Selected response poems will be shared with the group.

This workshop will be offered twice, first at the Central Branch on Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m., and then at the Isabel Turner Branch on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m.  Both workshops will be the same.

Both workshops are free, and open to those aged 14 years and older, but seating is limited.  To avoid disappointment, please register in advance at (or by phone at 613-549-8888) as of 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 for the April 11 workshop and 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 for the April 25 session.

Kingston Frontenac Public Library acknowledges the support of the City of Kingston through the Poet Laureate program, increasing the profile of the literary arts within the City and beyond.
