The Kingston Regional Fire Training Centre offers courses through the Ontario Fire College (OFC). These courses will be held at one of the City's fire stations.

Courses Offered

All applications for OFC courses must be received a minimum of 30 days in prior to the course start date. Fire departments will be charged a non-refundable registration fee of $65 for each student accepted into each course by the OFC.

The registration fee is not charged for cancellations received a minimum of 30 days before the course start date. Fire departments will be sent an invoice on a quarterly basis from OFC. 

2019

Course: NFPA 1021 FO I Blended-19-32 K           
Application deadline:  July 25
Dates: Sept. 13, 14, 15, 21, 22
Prerequisite: NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II or NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II Recruit (through the Ontario Fire College) It is the responsibility of the Fire Chief or designate to determine if the student meets the prerequisite to be eligible to apply for the course and to seek certification.
 

Course: NFPA 1021 FO I Blended-19-33 K
Application deadline: Aug. 30
Dates: Oct. 18, 19, 20, 26, 27
Prerequisite: NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II or NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II Recruit (through the Ontario Fire College) It is the responsibility of the Fire Chief or designate to determine if the student meets the prerequisite to be eligible to apply for the course and to seek certification.

Course: NFPA 1021 FO I Blended-20-3 K 
Application deadline: Nov. 29
Dates: Jan. 17, 18, 19, 25, 26
Prerequisite: NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II or NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II Recruit (through the Ontario Fire College) It is the responsibility of the Fire Chief or designate to determine if the student meets the prerequisite to be eligible to apply for the course and to seek certification.

Class Time and Cost

Class time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily, with additional project work as required.

Cost: $275 + HST + $65 registration fee to be invoiced by the Ontario Fire College. This fee includes snacks, drinks and lunch each day.

  • All courses that have pre-requisites must be approved by the OFC Registrar prior to acceptance. You will be notified via email of successful application to the course.
  • All OFC course applications must be received a minimum of 30 days before the course start date.
  • Please ensure you have the required pre-requisites before completing the application form.

Pre-class Materials and Fees

To access pre-class materials and a copy of the OFC calendar visit Moodle Contact North website and follow the instructions below.

To access the files:

  • Click the "Login as a guest" button (below the main login boxes)
  • Password: preclass
  • Click the course folder to access files for downloading

Students are responsible for completing all requirements as noted, and to bring any textbooks, equipment, materials or clothing as required for the course in the pre-class package. Students who arrive without the required text books, equipment, materials, or clothing, will not be eligible to attend. 

Course prerequisites: Applications will be screened by the OFC Registrar prior to approval for OFC courses. Participants who attend the course without the appropriate prerequisites will be asked to leave the course. A refund will not be provided. 

Fee schedule: Course fees are dependent upon the course and will be invoiced by the City of Kingston.

  • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor 1 - $275 plus HST
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer 1 (blended) - $275 plus HST
  • NFPA 1035 Public Educator – $165 plus HST

Course Cancellations

The OFC has the right to cancel a course due to insufficient registrations. Students will be notified in advance of any cancellation and refunded by the City. 

Cancellations or withdrawal of OFC-approved courses shall be in accordance with the OFC Administration and Registration policy. Cancellations received after the deadline will be non-refundable. 

The Fire Chief (or their designate) should notify the registrar's office in writing by email at applyofc@ontario.ca as soon as he/she knows a student will not be able to attend. Verbal cancellations are not accepted. If you wish to send a substitute student, submit an application form with a note regarding the replacement before the student attends the course.  Please ensure the student has successfully completed any pre-requisite work if required and that they have been given adequate time to complete pre-class material. Substitutions are not permitted by the OFC unless all documentation has been received and processed prior to the start of the course.
