Route Detours and Holiday Changes

Holiday schedules

Kingston Transit does not operate on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. Buses operate on a Sunday schedule on Family Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Monday and Boxing Day. Route 18 runs on a weekday schedule on these days.


Current Service Alerts

August 17 - Road closure - West and Ontario Streets

Ontario and West Streets will be closed on the afternoon of Friday, August 17 between King and Lower Union while boats are being launched for the annual 1000 Islands Poker Run.  From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Route 3 buses will avoid Ontario entirely.  Downtown-bound Route 3 buses will detour straight on King and left on Brock to access the Downtown Transfer Point.  From Johnson and King, Kingston Centre-bound Route 3 buses will detour south on King, returning to regular route at King and West.  All stops on Ontario will be out of service during this time (Route 3 buses will temporarily stop at King and West, King and Earl, and at King and Market).  Route 3 buses will not serve the stop on Brock at City Hall, however Route 12 buses will continue to serve this stop.

August 17-19 - Road closure - Ontario Street at City Hall

Ontario Street will be closed between Brock and Johnson for the annual 1000 Islands Poker Run from 10 a.m. Friday, August 17 until 12 p.m. Sunday, August 19.  During this time, Downtown-bound Route 3 buses will detour via Earl, King, and Brock to access the Downtown Transfer Point. Kingston Centre-bound buses will not be affected. The stop at Ontario and Johnson will be out of service during these closures. Route 3 buses will not serve the stop on Brock at City Hall during these closures, however Route 12 continues to serve this stop.  Route 3 buses will serve the existing Route 12 stop on King at Market during these closures.

August 13 - UPDATE - Princess Street Reconstruction

Starting Monday, August 13, and continuing until further notice, Division Street will be closed at the intersection of Queen for the next stage of the Princess Street Reconstruction project.

From the Downtown Transfer Point, Express Route 702 and Division St-bound Route 2 buses will resume regular route as far as the intersection of Brock and Barrie, then will detour right to Barrie, left to Colborne, and right to Division to resume regular route.  Both routes will service the existing Route 4/12 stop on Brock at Clergy.  The Route 2 Division St stop on Division (east side) at Colborne will be out of service during this time; an accessible temporary stop will be available one block north (on Division east side at Ellice).  The Route 2 Division St stop on Division (east side) at Princess remains out of service.  The temporary stop on Queen (north side), west of Barrie, will be out of service.

From the intersection of Division and Colborne, Express Route 701, Kingston Centre-bound Route 2, and Route 18 Train Station Circuit buses will detour left to Colborne, right to Barrie, left to Queen, and right to Bagot to access the Downtown Transfer Point.  All three routes will continue to service the existing temporary stop on Queen (south side), east of Barrie; Routes 2 and 18 will also continue to service the existing temporary stop on Queen (south side) at Montreal.  The Route 2/18 stop on Division (west side) at Colborne will be out of service during this time; an accessible temporary stop will be available one block north (on Division west side at Ellice).

August 1 - Stop move - King Street at Gord Edgar Downie Pier

Effective at start of service Wednesday, August 1, the existing Route 3 Downtown stop on King Street at Gord Edgar Downie Pier (opposite Beverley) will be relocated one-half block west to the newly-constructed accessible concrete pad.

July 16 - Stop move - Princess Street at Barrie

Starting Monday, July 16, and continuing until further notice, the Route 501/4 stop on Princess Street at Barrie (just outside Metro) will be temporarily relocated to an accessible location just east of Barrie.  This temporary stop move is to accommodate construction at the stop location.

July 3 - Road closure - King Street West at Church

Starting Tuesday, July 3, and continuing until further notice, the westbound lane of King Street West will be closed between Church and Union due to a Utilities Kingston gas main project.  From the intersection of King and Sir John A. Macdonald, Express Route 501 buses will detour right to Sir John A. Macdonald, left to Union, and right to King to resume regular route.  The Express stop on King just west of Sir John A. Macdonald (north side) will be out of service during this time; Express Route 501 buses will service the Route 3 stop on King (north side), just before the turn to Sir John A. Macdonald.

July 3 - Lane closure - King Street West at Union/Mowat

Starting Tuesday, July 3, and continuing until further notice, the left-turn lane from King Street West eastbound to Union eastbound will be closed due to a Utilities Kingston gas main project.  From the intersection of King and Union/Mowat, Montreal St.-bound Route 1, Division St.-bound Route 2, and Downtown-bound Route 3 buses will detour straight on King, left to Church, and right to Union to resume regular route.

May 28 - UPDATE - Princess Street Reconstruction

Starting Monday, May 28, and continuing until further notice, Princess Street will be closed at the intersection of Division for the next stage of the Princess Street Reconstruction project.  Division will also close between Brock and Queen; the stop on Division at Princess will be out of service during this time.

  • Express Route 502: From the intersection of Brock and Division, Express Route 502 buses will detour straight on Brock, right to Alfred, and left to Princess to resume regular route.  No Express Route 502 stops are missed on this detour.
  • Route 4 Cataraqui Centre: From the intersection of Brock and Division, Route 4 Cataraqui Centre buses will detour straight on Brock, right to Alfred, and left to Princess to resume regular route.  Route 4 stops at Division/Princess and at Princess/University will be out of service; buses will service the Route 12 stop on Brock at University.

March 22 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Craftsman Boulevard will be closed between Festubert and the CFB Kingston Health Service Centre from start of service Thursday, March 22 until further notice as Department of National Defence crews repair a steam line running beneath the road.  From the intersection of Craftsman and Festubert, buses will detour right to Festubert, left to Somme, left to Fifth, and right to Craftsman to resume regular route.  Stops at Craftsman and Lance will be out of service during this time.

January 10 - Stop out of service - John Counter Boulevard at VIA Rail

Effective at start of service on Wednesday, January 10, the INVISTA Centre-bound Route 7 stop on John Counter Boulevard (north side) outside the VIA Rail station will be temporarily removed from service until further notice for safety and accessibility reasons.  Please board Route 7 buses at a temporary stop on John Counter (north side) at Old Mill (one block west) during this time.

September 5 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Starting Tuesday, September 5, and continuing until further notice, the gates to CFB Kingston on Craftsman Boulevard (at Highway 2 and at Highway 15) will close each night at 8 p.m., and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.  Starting Tuesday, Route 12 buses will not service stops on Craftsman in either direction after 8 p.m.; buses will detour in both directions via Highways 2 and 15.

May 19 - Centennial Drive at Atkinson

The Route 14 detour via Atkinson and Halifax has resumed, and will continue until further notice. From the intersection of Centennial and Atkinson, Route 14 buses will detour east on Atkinson, south on Halifax, and east on Crossfield to return to regular route.  The bus stop on Centennial and Atkinson will be out of service during this time; a non-accessible temporary stop will be provided on Halifax, south of Atkinson.
