Route Detours and Holiday Changes

Holiday schedules

Kingston Transit does not operate on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. Buses operate on a Sunday schedule on Family Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Monday and Boxing Day. Route 18 runs on a weekday schedule on these days.


Current Service Alerts

September 24 – Stop move – King Street at Barrie

Effective Monday, September 24, the Route 3 Kingston Centre bus stop on King Street (north side) at Barrie (outside Waldron Tower) will be relocated one-half block west (to the intersection with George).

September 21 – Road closure – Princess Street

Princess Street will be closed between Division and Barrie for paving on Friday, September 21 (please note revised date), as part of the Princess Street Reconstruction project.  Express Route 501 and Downtown-bound Route 4 buses will detour via Alfred, Johnson, and Clergy.  The stop at Princess/Barrie will be out of service during this time; Routes 4 and 501 will service the Route 702 stop on Johnson at Barrie.

September 20 - Road closure - Champlain Avenue

Champlain Avenue will be closed at Indian for Utilities work starting Thursday, September 20, and continuing until further notice.  From the intersection of Old Quarry and Indian, Route 16 Division/Dalton buses will detour straight on Old Quarry and left to Portsmouth, resuming regular route at Champlain.  Stops at Indian/Champlain and Champlain/Portsmouth will be out of service during this time; please board Route 16 buses at Old Quarry/Indian or at Portsmouth/Mohawk.

September 20 – Road closure – Barrie Street (Princess Street Reconstruction)

Barrie Street will be closed between Queen and Brock for paving on Thursday, September 20 (please note revised date), as part of the Princess Street Reconstruction project.  From the intersection of Brock and Clergy, Express Route 702 and Route 2 Division St. buses will detour right to Clergy, left to Queen, and right to Barrie.  Buses will not service the stop at Brock and Clergy during this closure.

September 20 - Stop out of service - Midland Avenue (west side) at Walmart

The Route 7 Rideau Heights/Route 15 Cataraqui Centre/Cataraqui Woods stop will be temporarily removed from service starting Thursday, September 20 while crews upgrade the stop to meet Kingston Transit's accessibility standards.  Starting Thursday, Route 7 and 15 buses will service a non-accessible temporary stop south of the traffic signals (beside the LCBO).

Please note that the shelter will be removed from the stop by end of day Wednesday, September 19.

September 17 - UPDATE - Princess Street Reconstruction

UPDATE - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

Division Street remains closed until further notice at the intersection of Colborne for the next stage of the Princess Street Reconstruction project.

From the Downtown Transfer Point, Express Route 702 and Division St-bound Route 2 buses will resume regular route as far as the intersection of Brock and Barrie, then will detour right to Barrie, left to Pine, and right to Division to resume regular route.  Both routes will service the existing Route 4/12 stop on Brock at Clergy, as well as temporary stop on Barrie at Raglan and on Pine at Division (NEW); Route 2 buses only will also service a temporary stop on Pine at Division.  Route 2 Division stops on Division at Princess (east side) and Colborne (east side) remain out of service. UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 18: buses will not service the existing Route 4/12 stop on Brock at Clergy on Wednesday, September 19, as buses will detour via Clergy, Queen, and Barrie due to paving on Barrie (between Brock and Queen).

From the intersection of Division and Pine, Express Route 701, Kingston Centre-bound Route 2, and Route 18 buses will detour left to Pine, right to Barrie, left to Queen, and right to Bagot to access the Downtown Transfer Point.  All routes will service temporary stops on Pine at Division (NEW) and on Barrie at Raglan.  Routes 701, 2, and 18 will continue to service the existing temporary stop on Queen (south side), east of Barrie; Routes 2 and 18 will also continue to service the existing temporary stop on Queen (south side) at Montreal.  The Route 2/18 stop on Division (west side) at Colborne will be out of service during this time, and the temporary stop on Division west side (at Ellice) will no longer be in service.

Route 18Q will follow the Route 18 detour from Division/Pine to Barrie/Queen.  From here, Route 18Q buses will continue straight on Barrie to resume regular route at Princess.  Route 18Q buses will service temporary stops at Pine/Division and at Barrie/Raglan.

September 17 - Stop out of service - King Street (north side) at Maitland

Starting Monday, September 17 and continuing until further notice, the Route 3 Kingston Centre stop on King Street (north side) at Maitland will be temporarily out of service while Utilities Kingston contractors replace the watermain beneath the stop.  Please board Route 3 buses at the accessible stop two blocks east, on West (east side) at King.

September 10 - Stop out of service - Virginia Street (west side) at Sutherland

Effective Monday, September 10, the stop on Virginia Street (west side) at Sutherland servicing Routes 1 St. Lawrence College, 2 Kingston Centre, and 7 INVISTA Centre has been temporarily removed from service due to accessibility concerns.  This stop is being upgraded to meet Kingston Transit accessibility standards, and will re-enter service once construction is complete.  Please board Route 1, 2, and 7 buses at the accessible stop one block north (outside 80 Virginia).

September 4 - Timing change - Departure from INVISTA Centre

Effective Tuesday, September 4, all Rideau Heights-bound Route 7 buses will depart the INVISTA Centre 5 minutes earlier (at :15 and :45 after the hour), which will affect pick-up times at all stops between the INVISTA Centre and the Cataraqui Centre Transfer Point (including stops at Assurant and at Walmart).  This change is being made in order to ensure connections are made between Route 7 and other buses at the Cataraqui Centre Transfer Point.

August 25 - Stop out of service - King Street at Gord Edgar Downie Pier

As of start of service Saturday, August 25, the Route 3 Downtown stop on King Street at Gord Edgar Downie Pier (west end of Breakwater Park, at Beverley) will be temporarily removed from service until further notice as part of the measures the City is taking to discourage pedestrians from crossing King Street at Beverley.  Please board Route 3 buses at the accessible stop on King at Albert (two blocks east).

July 16 - Stop move - Princess Street at Barrie

Starting Monday, July 16, and continuing until further notice, the Route 501/4 stop on Princess Street at Barrie (just outside Metro) will be temporarily relocated to an accessible location just east of Barrie.  This temporary stop move is to accommodate construction at the stop location.

May 28 - UPDATE - Princess Street Reconstruction

Starting Monday, May 28, and continuing until further notice, Princess Street will be closed at the intersection of Division for the next stage of the Princess Street Reconstruction project.  Division will also close between Brock and Queen; the stop on Division at Princess will be out of service during this time.

  • Express Route 502: From the intersection of Brock and Division, Express Route 502 buses will detour straight on Brock, right to Alfred, and left to Princess to resume regular route.  No Express Route 502 stops are missed on this detour.
  • Route 4 Cataraqui Centre: From the intersection of Brock and Division, Route 4 Cataraqui Centre buses will detour straight on Brock, right to Alfred, and left to Princess to resume regular route.  Route 4 stops at Division/Princess and at Princess/University will be out of service; buses will service the Route 12 stop on Brock at University.

January 10 - Stop out of service - John Counter Boulevard at VIA Rail

Effective at start of service on Wednesday, January 10, the INVISTA Centre-bound Route 7 stop on John Counter Boulevard (north side) outside the VIA Rail station will be temporarily removed from service until further notice for safety and accessibility reasons.  Please board Route 7 buses at a temporary stop on John Counter (north side) at Old Mill (one block west) during this time.

September 5 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Starting Tuesday, September 5, and continuing until further notice, the gates to CFB Kingston on Craftsman Boulevard (at Highway 2 and at Highway 15) will close each night at 8 p.m., and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.  Starting Tuesday, Route 12 buses will not service stops on Craftsman in either direction after 8 p.m.; buses will detour in both directions via Highways 2 and 15.

May 19 - Centennial Drive at Atkinson

The Route 14 detour via Atkinson and Halifax has resumed, and will continue until further notice. From the intersection of Centennial and Atkinson, Route 14 buses will detour east on Atkinson, south on Halifax, and east on Crossfield to return to regular route.  The bus stop on Centennial and Atkinson will be out of service during this time; a non-accessible temporary stop will be provided on Halifax, south of Atkinson.
