Route Detours and Holiday Changes
Check this page regularly for news and service detours that may affect your commute.
Kingston Transit does not operate on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. Buses operate on a Sunday schedule on Family Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Monday and Boxing Day. Route 18 runs on a weekday schedule on these days.

September 21/22 - Detour - West Campus Lane
Due to projected high traffic volumes anticipated for the Glorious Sons concert at Richardson Stadium, Route 17D/17W buses will detour away from West Campus Lane from 11 p.m. Saturday, September 21 until 1 p.m. Sunday, September 22. From the intersection of Union and Sir John A. Macdonald, buses will detour left to Sir John A. Macdonald, right to King, right to Yonge, and right to Union to service West Campus. Buses will not service stops on West Campus Lane (including the stop at John Orr Tower), nor will they service the regular West Campus stop on Union (north side); please board buses at the West Campus stop on Union (south side).
September 16-20 - Detour - John Counter Boulevard at VIA Rail
Due to several upcoming lane and road closures on John Counter Boulevard as part of the widening project, Route 7 buses will detour in both directions away from the construction zone (between the VIA Rail entrance and exit) from start of service Monday, September 16 until end of service Friday, September 20. Route 7 INVISTA Centre buses will detour via Indian, McMichael, and Princess, while Route 7 Rideau Heights buses will detour through VIA Rail property. Stops at John Counter/Old Mill (north side), John Counter/VIA Rail (south side), and John Counter/Indian (north side) will be out of service during this time. Route 7 Rideau Heights buses will service the Route 16/18 bus stop inside the VIA Rail property. Route 7 INVISTA Centre buses will service the Express stop on Princess at Parkway; if travelling to VIA Rail, Route 7 INVISTA Centre riders may transfer to Routes 16 or 18 at this stop. Routes 16 and 18 are unaffected by this detour.
September 9 - Stop relocation - Johnson Street at Sydenham
Starting Monday, September 9, and continuing until further notice, the Route 12 CFB Kingston stop on Johnson Street at Sydenham will be relocated approximately 15 meters west to accommodate a lane reduction.
September 3 - Platform change - Kingston Centre Transfer Point
Effective at start of service Tuesday, September 3, the platform assignment at Kingston Centre Transfer Point for Route 16 Division/Dalton buses will change to improve route reliability. As of September 3, Route 16 Division/Dalton buses will service Platform 6 (southeast platform); this platform will continue to be serviced by Route 3 buses.
August 29 - Stop out of service - Johnson Street at Macdonnell
As of start of service Thursday, August 29, the Route 12 CFB Kingston/Route 17W West Campus stop on Johnson Street at Macdonnell will be permanently removed from service for safety reasons. Please board buses at the accessible stop on Johnson at Willingdon (two blocks west).
August 21 - Stop move - John Counter Boulevard at Princess
Effective Wednesday, August 21, and continuing until further notice, the Route 7 Rideau Heights/Route 16 Train Station/Route 18 Train Station bus stop on John Counter Boulevard at Princess (south side) will be temporarily shifted one-half block east (to James Reid Furniture) while crews continue work on the John Counter Boulevard Overpass project.
July 2 - Stop move - Pratt Drive at Kildare (west side)
Effective Tuesday, July 2, the Route 10 stop on Pratt Drive at Kildare (west side) will be relocated to the intersection of Kildare and McDonough (one-half block south and one block east). The stop on Pratt at Kildare (east side) remains in service.
July 2 - Stop entering service - 933 John Marks Avenue at Innovation
Effective at start of service Tuesday, July 2, Express Route 602 buses will begin servicing an accessible bus stop outside 933 John Marks Avenue (north side at Innovation).
January 10 - Stop out of service - John Counter Boulevard at VIA Rail
Effective at start of service on Wednesday, January 10, the INVISTA Centre-bound Route 7 stop on John Counter Boulevard (north side) outside the VIA Rail station will be temporarily removed from service until further notice for safety and accessibility reasons. Please board Route 7 buses at a temporary stop on John Counter (north side) at Old Mill (one block west) during this time.
September 5 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard
Starting Tuesday, September 5, and continuing until further notice, the gates to CFB Kingston on Craftsman Boulevard (at Highway 2 and at Highway 15) will close each night at 8 p.m., and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning. Starting Tuesday, Route 12 buses will not service stops on Craftsman in either direction after 8 p.m.; buses will detour in both directions via Highways 2 and 15.
May 19 - Centennial Drive at Atkinson
The Route 14 detour via Atkinson and Halifax has resumed, and will continue until further notice. From the intersection of Centennial and Atkinson, Route 14 buses will detour east on Atkinson, south on Halifax, and east on Crossfield to return to regular route. The bus stop on Centennial and Atkinson will be out of service during this time; a non-accessible temporary stop will be provided on Halifax, south of Atkinson.
September 8 - Road closure - Ontario Street at City Hall
Ontario Street will be closed between Brock and Market for the annual Multicultural Arts Festival on Sunday, September 8 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. During this time, Downtown-bound Route 3 buses will detour via Earl, King, and Brock to access the Downtown Transfer Point. Kingston Centre-bound buses will not be affected. The stop at Ontario and Johnson will be out of service during these times. As well, Route 3 buses will not serve the stop on Brock at City Hall, however Route 12 continues to serve this stop. Route 3 buses will serve the existing Route 12 stop on King at Market during this closure.
