Route Detours and Holiday Changes

Holiday schedules

Kingston Transit does not operate on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. Busses operate on a Sunday schedule on Family Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Monday and Boxing Day. Route 18 runs on a weekday schedule on these days.


Current Service Alerts

May 22 - Stop out of service - Downtown Transfer Point Platform 7

Starting Tuesday, May 22, and continuing until further notice, Downtown Transfer Point Platform 7 will be out of service while crews repair a light standard.  During this time, Express Route 601 buses will service Platform 4 (west side of Bagot, between Princess and Brock), accessing Downtown Transfer Point via Queen and Bagot.

May 1 - UPDATE - Princess Street Reconstruction

Starting Tuesday, May 1, the Express Route 501 detour has changed, and will no longer service Queen (all other routes continue to use Queen).  From the intersection of Princess and Alfred, buses will detour right to Alfred, left to Johnson, left to Clergy, and right to Princess to resume regular route.  Express Route 501 buses will stop at the Express Route 702 stop on Johnson at Barrie.

April 22/23 - Route out of service

The Route 18Q Queen's late night train station bus will not operate after the end of Queen's University's Winter term.  Regular service on Route 18Q has been suspended, and will resume in September.  A Route 18 trip will depart VIA Rail at 9:25 p.m. on Sundays until September.

April 26 - Route out of service

The Route 20 Queen's Main/West Campus Shuttle will not operate after the end of Queen's University's Winter term.  Regular service on Route 20 will conclude at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, and will resume in September.

April 26/27 - Route out of service

The Route 17 late night Queen's Shuttle will not operate after the end of Queen's University's Winter term.  Regular service on Route 17 will conclude at 2:15 a.m. on Friday, April 27, and will resume in September.

March 22 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Craftsman Boulevard will be closed between Festubert and the CFB Kingston Health Service Centre from start of service Thursday, March 22 until further notice as Department of National Defence crews repair a steam line running beneath the road.  From the intersection of Craftsman and Festubert, buses will detour right to Festubert, left to Somme, left to Fifth, and right to Craftsman to resume regular route.  Stops at Craftsman and Lance will be out of service during this time.

January 10 - Stop out of service - Taylor-Kidd Boulevard at Milford

Effective at start of service on Wednesday, January 10, the St. Lawrence College-bound Route 6 stop on Taylor-Kidd Boulevard (south side) west of Milford will be temporarily removed from service until further notice for safety and accessibility reasons.  Please board Route 6 buses on Progress, south of Taylor-Kidd (one block east and one-half block south).

January 10 - Stop out of service - John Counter Boulevard at VIA Rail

Effective at start of service on Wednesday, January 10, the INVISTA Centre-bound Route 7 stop on John Counter Boulevard (north side) outside the VIA Rail station will be temporarily removed from service until further notice for safety and accessibility reasons.  Please board Route 7 buses at a temporary stop on John Counter (north side) at Old Mill (one block west) during this time.

January 8 - Princess Street Reconstruction

Starting Monday, January 8, and continuing until further notice, Princess Street will be closed between Barrie and Clergy for the next stage of the Princess Street Reconstruction project. 

Express Route 701, Kingston Centre-bound Route 2, and Route 18 Train Station Circuit buses will detour via Queen and Bagot.  Stops on Princess at Barrie and at 270 Princess will be out of service during this time.  All buses will service an accessible temporary stop on Queen east of Barrie; Routes 2, 4 and 18 will also service a temporary stop on Queen at Montreal (Express buses will not service this stop). Express Route 502, Express Route 702, Route 2 Division St., and Route 4 Cataraqui Centre buses are not affected.

Until end of day Sunday, May 27, Downtown-bound Route 4 buses will detour via Division, Queen, and Bagot, stopping at Queen/Barrie and Queen/Montreal.  Starting Monday, May 28, the Route 4  detour will change to use Alfred, Johnson, Clergy and Princess instead (making stops along Johnson).

September 5 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Starting Tuesday, September 5, and continuing until further notice, the gates to CFB Kingston on Craftsman Boulevard (at Highway 2 and at Highway 15) will close each night at 8 p.m., and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.  Starting Tuesday, Route 12 buses will not service stops on Craftsman in either direction after 8 p.m.; buses will detour in both directions via Highways 2 and 15.

May 19 - Centennial Drive at Atkinson

The Route 14 detour via Atkinson and Halifax has resumed, and will continue until further notice. From the intersection of Centennial and Atkinson, Route 14 buses will detour east on Atkinson, south on Halifax, and east on Crossfield to return to regular route.  The bus stop on Centennial and Atkinson will be out of service during this time; a non-accessible temporary stop will be provided on Halifax, south of Atkinson.
