City begins asphalt rejuvenation around Kingston
The City of Kingston will begin undertaking asphalt rejuvenation work on streets around Kingston starting Monday, July 28, to restore performance and extend the life of roadways.
The City has contracted Superior Road Products to complete the work on different streets throughout the municipality. Their process involves applying a maltene oil-based emulsion to the road that penetrates the pavement and evaporates the water within. It takes about 45 minutes to complete. More information about the application process can be found on the Superior Road Products website.
The rejuvenation work will leave roads looking stained and may be mistaken for an oil spot or spill. Limestone sand is used to absorb residual oil once the rejuvenator is cured and swept up the following day.
The rejuvenator is applied during the daytime and will cause traffic delays. Traffic can continue to use the roadway during this process, but commuters may wish to avoid these areas if possible. All locations will be impacted for less than a day. Find affected locations under Road Rehabilitation (reclamite application) on the City’s Capital Projects page.
