City of Kingston and the Government of Canada support affordable housing in new Bath Road development
The City of Kingston is proud to announce its support for a new housing development under construction at 1752 Bath Road, led by Martin Group of Companies. The project will deliver 109 new rental units to the community, with nearly one-quarter designated as affordable housing thanks to a $1.4 million municipal contribution and $1 million from the City’s allocation under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
This investment is part of a broader initiative announced today by the federal government, which is providing the primary financing for this project under the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Apartment Construction Loan Program. The announcement was made by the Honourable Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, on behalf of the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, alongside Mayor Bryan Paterson.
The project will feature a 10-storey apartment building with 53 one-bedroom units and 56 two-bedroom units, located directly on a public transit route. The development will also include 100 bicycle parking spaces and car-share parking spots, supporting sustainable transportation options for residents.
“Creating more affordable housing options remains a top priority in Kingston," said Mayor Paterson. “Thanks to combined funding from the City and the federal government, 28 of the 109 units at 1752 Bath Road will be designated as affordable housing. This project represents an important step toward meeting local housing needs and fostering a more inclusive community. We’re grateful for the strong partnership that made this possible.”
“The Government of Canada is committed to working with our partners to rise to the challenge of building more housing in Canada,” said MP Gerretsen. “Through the Apartment Construction Loan Program, we are taking action to increase the supply of new rental housing by investing more than $36 million in the construction of 109 homes in Kingston. This is more than just construction, it’s about creating opportunities for individuals and families to thrive, to grow, and to build their future with stability and dignity.”
"The Martin Group is dedicated to building high-quality rental housing that meets the needs of Kingston residents,” said Andrew Martin, Martin Group of Companies. “This project reflects both the City’s and the federal government’s commitment to increasing housing supply and improving affordability. It would not have been possible without the support provided through CMHC’s Apartment Construction Loan Program and the City of Kingston’s investment. Together, these contributions are helping deliver much-needed housing and ensuring more residents have access to secure, attainable homes."
The City’s investment reflects its commitment to expanding affordable housing options and building a stronger, more inclusive community.
