Discover the Story of The Spire at Heritage Hour

Discover Kingston’s rich history this fall at Heritage Hour on Thursday, Oct. 2! The speaker series will welcome Ellie Deir to Kingston City Hall to speak about the multifaceted history of The Spire.

As a church, community hub, gathering space and arts performance venue, The Spire has served many functions since its construction in the 1850s. Deir will lead an engaging discussion about the church’s architecture, historical figures connected to it, and why The Spire represents a creative example of how to repurpose and celebrate heritage buildings.

Deir is a former assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University with a wealth of experience working on various heritage projects in Kingston.

Heritage Hour features speakers from across the community who speak about Kingston’s diverse heritage resources. Registration is not required, and all are welcome to attend. Events are hosted in Memorial Hall, located on the second floor of City Hall, from 12 - 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.

Today, the City is committed to working with Indigenous peoples and all residents to pursue a united path of reconciliation.
