Have your say on public art for the Robert Bruce Memorial Parking Garage
The City of Kingston invites community members to share their feedback on proposed public artwork for the exterior of the Robert Bruce Memorial Parking Garage on Bagot Street.
This project is part of the City’s Public Art Program and aims to enhance the recently upgraded garage and create a vibrant, welcoming space in Kingston’s downtown core. Once installed, the artwork will be visible from street level to pedestrians, transit users, and others passing through the busy corridor.
“The intent of this project is to create a new point of interest in the downtown core and foster pride of place for everyone who moves through the area,” says Taylor Norris, Public Art Coordinator for the City of Kingston. “We’re excited to hear what the community thinks about the shortlisted proposals as part of this process, and to promote the Kingston artists who have been selected.”
In Fall 2024, the City ran a community focus group to define the scope, goals and themes for the project. Following an open call for submissions, 41 Expressions of Interest were received. A Selection Panel of local artists, arts workers, and creative professionals reviewed the applications and shortlisted four Kingston-based artists to develop detailed proposals.
The shortlisted artists are:
- Aaron Forsyth
- Abby Gowland
- Frank DeSa
- Portia ‘Po’ Chapman
Feedback collected during this engagement will be shared with the Selection Panel as part of their review and final selection, and with the artists to support their professional growth.
View the four proposals and complete the feedback survey on Get Involved Kingston before 4 p.m. on June 19.
