Holidays to affect City and Utilities Kingston services
City of Kingston and Utilities Kingston services and facilities will be affected by the holidays as outlined below.
Christmas and New Year’s holiday green bin and garbage schedule
There is no collection on Dec. 25 and 26. Collection will occur two days after your regularly scheduled collection.
There is no collection on Jan. 1. Collection will occur the day after your regularly scheduled collection.
Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC): The recycling depot and yard waste site will be open Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Dec. 25 and 26, open Dec. 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Jan. 1.
The recycling convenience depot will cease operations as of Jan. 1, 2026, and will not be reopening. Yard waste drop off will reopen Jan. 2, 2026, and continue operations as usual.
Real Christmas trees (ornaments and tinsel removed) can be dropped off for free at KARC, 196 Lappan’s Ln.

- Christmas Eve, Dec. 24: Regular weekday service. Customer service office closed.
- Christmas Day, Dec. 25: No service. Customer service office closed.
- Boxing Day, Dec. 26: Sunday service. Customer service office closed.
- New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31: Everyone can ride for free at any time on all routes. Transit will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Late-night service available on Route N1 until 3 a.m. Customer service office open until 4:30 p.m.
- New Year’s Day, Jan. 1: No service. Customer service office closed.
Kingston Access Bus services schedule
- Christmas Eve, Dec. 24: Regular service and hours, 6 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Office open, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Dialysis passengers will be scheduled according to their modified schedule.
- Christmas Day, Dec. 25: No on-road service. Office closed.
- Boxing Day, Dec. 26: Limited on-road service, 6 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. Office open from 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
- New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31: Regular service and hours, 6 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Office open, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Dialysis passengers will be scheduled according to their modified schedule.
- New Year’s Day, Jan. 1: No on-road service. Office closed.
Municipal office/Facilities schedules
- Administrative offices, including Housing and Social Services on Montreal Street: Closed Dec. 24 – 26 and Jan. 1.
- Provincial Offences Court at 362 Montreal St. will be closed Dec. 25 - 26, and Jan. 1.
- Utilities Kingston and Kingston Hydro: Closed Dec. 24 - 26 and Dec. 31. Also closed Jan. 1, 2026. Utilities Kingston customers experiencing a utility emergency such as a gas smell, power outage, or water main break, please call the 24-hour emergency line at 613-546-1181. - Kingston Frontenac Public Library branches: Closed Dec. 24, 25, 26, 28, 31 and Jan 1. Services and digital collections can be accessed online. Don’t have a library card? Register online.
- INVISTA fitness centre and ice pads: On Dec. 24, all programming, fitness centre and the front desk will close at 2 p.m. Closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1. New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, all programming and fitness centre will close at 2 p.m. to make way for a New Year’s Eve event. - Artillery Park Aquatic Centre: On Dec. 24 and Dec 31 the front desk and building will close at 2 p.m. Closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.
- Rideau Heights Community Centre: Closed Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1.
- Kingston East Community Centre: Closed Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1.
- Kingston Grand Theatre Box Office: Box Office will be closed Dec. 24 – Jan. 4. Tickets and gift certificates are always available online at KingstonGrand.ca.
