Local Arts Residency program returns with four residencies this July

The Baby Grand at Kingston Grand Theatre will once again be hosting four unique and creative artistic endeavours as the City of Kingston’s Local Arts Residency program is set to take over this July.

Now in its fifth year, the residency program supports local artists by providing professional space, technical resources, and creative freedom to develop new work in the heart of downtown Kingston.

“The Local Arts Residency is a vital part of the City's commitment to supporting Kingston’s arts community,” said Jayson Duggan, Performing Arts Manager at the City of Kingston. “We’re proud to continue investing in programs that empower artists to create, connect and inspire.”

Following an open call for applications, four projects were selected by a jury composed of past residency participants. The 2025 Artists-in-Residence are:

  • Kiara Flavin with Ground UP Dance Festival
  • Katie Legere with Chris Alfano & William Egnatoff
  • Jarena Lee & Sarra Mirghani
  • Nathan Zhe & Kelvin Chun

Launched in 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Local Arts Residency is managed by the City’s Arts & Culture Services department, which also operates the Kingston Grand Theatre and produces the Grand OnStage program. The residency offers artists access to the Baby Grand’s state-of-the-art facilities, technical production support and a $1,000 honourarium.
