Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard intersection project nears completion with paving work underway
Construction of the Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard intersection is nearing completion with the marking of a major milestone – all underground works have been finished and paving work is now underway.
Major intersection paving is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Oct. 7, until Friday, Oct. 10. This work will take place overnight. The intersection will be fully closed from 11 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following day.
Daytime work will continue with the intersection open to traffic. All paving work is weather permitting and rain events may delay work.
Nighttime work may cause some disruption of City services, nearby residents and the public. To help reduce impacts, the following accommodations are planned:
- Emergency Services will be permitted to bypass the intersection closure.
- Kingston Transit should not be impacted by the closure.
- The Waaban Crossing will be open for local traffic only for residents of Village on the River Apartments and River Park Condo neighbourhoods.
- The intersection of Ascot Lane at John Counter Boulevard will remain open during all phases of the work.
- Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained throughout the intersection closure although cyclists may have to dismount temporarily.
- Paving equipment has been outfitted with growler-type alarms instead of the loud beeping noises to help reduce piercing noise at nighttime.
Once the paving milestone is achieved, remaining work includes installation of sidewalks, multi-use pathway paving, landscaping, road painting and signage and activation of signals.
Thank you for your patience as we near the completion of this major project.
