Public Works extends significant weather event declaration and winter parking restrictions

With snow squalls, high winds and falling temperatures expected, Public Works has extended the significant weather event declaration and the on‑street parking ban tonight, Dec. 29.

Public Works staff continue to work clearing ice from streets, sidewalks and bus shelters.

While the restrictions are in place, parking on all city streets is prohibited between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. and from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. on the streets that surround Kingston General Hospital.

Significant weather event

Public Works has extended the significant weather event declaration, meaning multiple weather hazards may pose a significant danger to sidewalk, bicycle lane and roadway users. We urge residents to please use extreme caution or avoid travel during this time.

Kingston transit is currently operating snow plan routing, using primary road corridors to ensure safety and reliability. Transit will return to normal routing tomorrow morning, Dec. 30.

For residents preparing for waste collection, please ensure your collection bins are free from ice that could prevent them from opening. Automated waste containers and green bins cannot be collected if covered in ice.

Notice will be posted on our website and social media when the significant weather event declaration is lifted.
