Celebrating the power of local volunteers
Ordinary people have an extraordinary impact when they volunteer.
As National Volunteer Week 2026 approaches, the City thanks all volunteers who give their time and energy to help improve our community. From April 19 - 25, and every other day of the year, we recognize the meaningful contributions of civic volunteers and the difference they make across Kingston.
The year 2026 also marks International Volunteer Year, another opportunity to recognize the power of civic participation and renew Canada’s culture of volunteering.
“Municipal volunteers play an important role in supporting the programs, events and initiatives that bring our city together,” says Anthony Amodeo, Learning & Development Specialist and Corporate Volunteer Management Program Lead with the City.
“By giving your time and sharing your talents, you strengthen our city. Volunteer Appreciation Week is another chance for us to acknowledge all those who step forward to support their community and help make Kingston a more welcoming, connected place.”
City volunteers choose how and where they give back, with a wide range of opportunities to support. Their contributions make a real difference while also creating opportunities to stay active, connect with others and build new skills.

The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.
Today, the City is committed to working with Indigenous peoples and all residents to pursue a united path of reconciliation.
