City of Kingston is relaunching Better Homes Program
The City of Kingston is relaunching the Better Homes Kingston (BHK) Program to make it easier and more affordable for homeowners to complete energy-efficient home upgrades. Applications for the program open May 4, 2026 and will be accepted until available funding is fully allocated.
The Better Homes Program offers eligible homeowners access to low-interest loans to finance energy efficiency upgrades, with the option to receive up to 50 per cent of the funding upfront. The relaunch also introduces new rebates for Utilities Kingston natural gas customers, which are available on their own or in addition to loan financing.
The program supports the City’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality no later than 2040 by helping residents reduce household energy use.
“Energy costs are rising, and homeowners that want to make upgrades can struggle with upfront expenses,” said Soren Christianson, Project Manager with the City’s Climate Leadership Division, “the Better Homes Program helps remove barriers by combining financing, rebates and support from an energy coach to guide residents through the process from start to finish.”
As part of the program, participants will receive support from an energy coach. They can help homeowners understand their options, navigate eligibility requirements and complete their retrofit projects with confidence.
By improving home energy efficiency, residents can lower monthly energy bills, make their homes more comfortable, and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
Applications open May 4, 2026, on a first-come first-served basis, and will remain open until the program reaches capacity. Residents are encouraged to apply early.
