Emergency Shelter Operations Update

Overnight on May 7, emergency shelter services at 38 Cowdy St. (Adelaide Street Shelter) were disrupted due to a plumbing emergency. The City and its partners mobilized the emergency response location at Rideau Heights Community Centre to accommodate those accessing services at Adelaide Street Shelter. Shelter services will again be offered at Rideau Heights Community Centre this evening, May 8.

Starting tomorrow, May 9 and continuing until repairs are completed, the overnight shelter services and day services from Adelaide Street Shelter will be moved to the Memorial Centre, 303 York St. This ensures people experiencing homelessness can continue to access shelter and day services. Services will be available 24/7 and will include Street Outreach, Housing First and Prevention/Diversion. A dedicated security guard will also be present at the site 24/7 and support will be offered by City By-Law and Kingston Police as needed.

We would like to thank Lionhearts, AMHS, Street Outreach, the Red Cross and all our community partners for coming together to support those displaced from services at Adelaide Street Shelter.

The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.

Today, the City is committed to working with Indigenous peoples and all residents to pursue a united path of reconciliation.
