Municipal Special Constables sworn in and ready to serve, enhancing safety on public property.
The City strengthened its municipal enforcement capabilities on Monday, June 29, as eight members of the Licensing & Enforcement Services department, including six supervisors and two members of department leadership, were officially sworn in as Municipal Special Constables under the new Municipal Special Constable Program.
The program was developed to enhance the City’s ability to respond to non-criminal enforcement matters on municipal property and to provide additional support to bylaw enforcement officers working in the field.
The Municipal Special Constables will begin performing their duties in July in addition to their work as supervisors in the City’s Licensing & Enforcement Services department.
“The swearing-in of these Municipal Special Constables marks an important milestone for the City’s enforcement team,” said Kyle Compeau, Director of Licensing & Enforcement Services at the City of Kingston. “We are proud to stand alongside City bylaw officers and provide additional resources and authority when issues come up that are beyond the scope of bylaw enforcement.”
