Queen’s University 2025 Residence Move-In & Fall Temporary Noise Exemption Request

Queen’s University has submitted its 2025 Joint City Submission outlining plans for Residence Move-In and Fall Orientation activities. The City of Kingston is seeking public feedback on the proposed temporary road closures, parking restrictions, and noise bylaw exemptions.

Residence Move-In

Dates: Friday, Aug. 29 & Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025
Impact: Temporary road closures, one-way traffic designations, and parking restrictions in the University District to support the arrival of approximately 4,800 students.
Key Streets Affected: Albert St, Bader Lane, Collingwood St, Stuart St, University Ave, and others.

Fall Orientation

Dates: Aug. 30 – Sept. 1 & Sept. 5 – 7, 2025

Events: Faculty-specific programming, parades, musical performances, and social events across campus and nearby city parks.

Road Closures: University Ave, Cummins Rd, and Union St. for scheduled events.

Noise Bylaw Exemptions:

    • On-Campus: Amplified sound permitted from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 30 – Sept. 1 and Sept. 5 – 7.
    • City Parks & Public Spaces: Amplified sound permitted from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2, 7, and 8 at locations such as City Park, Victoria Park, Cricket Field, and Cummins Road.
    • Events include welcome activities, team-building games, outdoor ceremonies, and traditional student events like the Grease Pole Climb and Glow Bash.
