Recycling convenience drop-off depot at KARC to cease operations

The recycling convenience drop-off depot at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC), 196 Lappan’s Ln., will cease operations as of Jan. 1, 2026, due to a lack of sustainable long-term funding from the Provincial provider, Circular Materials Ontario (CMO).

The last day for services at the convenience drop-off depot is Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residential recycling programs in Ontario are shifting to a new Provincial system run and funded by the producers of recyclable materials. On July 1, 2025, CMO took over Kingston’s blue and grey bin programs. As of Jan. 1, 2026, the City will no longer receive sustainable funding for a recycling convenience depot.

Curbside recycling collection is consistent, accessible and aligns with Provincial recycling regulations. All residential properties have recycling options as they receive or are eligible for curbside collection in the city of Kingston.

The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.
